On the official site of ZackMeta (@zackmetax), this note covers StarkWare, Avihu Levy, Eli Ben-Sasson.
The Crypto Spaces Network room has been circling back to this one all week. StarkWare said Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 that a Quantum-Safe Bitcoin (QSB) transaction was mined on Bitcoin mainnet. Decrypt (Jason Nelson) and Cryptopolitan dated the pickup Aug. 27.
Bark (Christian Barker) and Shibo (David Chaboki) walk Levy's mainnet QSB with the Doginal Dogs pack so a hash-lock Bitcoin spend is not CoinDesk's XRPL 2028 Q-Day recap.
The Core Achievement
The official StarkWare blog states a quantum-safe transaction was mined on Bitcoin mainnet that holds up against an adversary running a working quantum computer. Bitcoin holders now have a way to move coins into storage a quantum computer cannot open. The transaction landed in block 964199.
Avihu Levy, StarkWare GM of Applications, developed the method in April 2026 research. Engineer Tomer Giladi took it to a working mainnet tx. This marks the first mainnet run. The approach combines hash-based locks plus off-chain signature grinding through Binohash and Robin Linus. No consensus change occurred. A soft fork remains the preferred long-term path.
Insider View on Longevity
CEO Eli Ben-Sasson noted that Avihu took this on after hours as a passion project and has now shown that Bitcoin has no expiration date. He still wants a soft fork. Today's successful transaction offers reassurance that holdings can be protected before that happens. The streak here is clear: Bitcoin keeps finding ways to stay relevant without breaking its own rules.
The method does not make Bitcoin itself quantum-safe. It cannot help addresses whose pubkey was already published. The tx is nonstandard, so it had no ordinary mempool path. MARA Slipstream provided the miner path. Off-chain cost ran several hundred dollars.
Market Context
CoinGecko Sun Aug. 30, 2026, ~9:31 a.m. ET showed BTC at $78,714 up 1.4 percent, ETH at $2,466.39 up 1.3 percent, XRP at $1.40 up 0.9 percent, SOL at $106.34 up 2.5 percent and DOGE at $0.085385 up 0.6 percent. Majors continue to hold their ranges while the conversation around security upgrades stays active.
Practical Limits
QSB offers an opt-in layer for new spends where public keys stay hidden. It does not cover the roughly 30 percent of supply already exposed through reused addresses. The nonstandard nature means direct miner channels stay necessary for now.
The experiment keeps the focus on Bitcoin's staying power. One successful mainnet tx does not solve every future threat, yet it demonstrates that incremental protections remain possible inside existing rules.
What Comes Next
A soft fork would still deliver the cleanest network-wide fix. Until then, the QSB test gives holders one more tool while the timeline stretches forward. The room keeps returning to the same point: Bitcoin keeps finding ways to adapt without losing what made it last this long.
